Ski Resort Heated Sidewalk

heated sidewalk in action

One of the selling points for a condominium complex at the Deer Valley resort was proximity to the ski slopes. The facility thrives on its ski in and out access to the slopes. To ensure constant and safe access to the ski runs, the builders asked Warmquest to design a snow melting system.

During the construction in the fall of 2000, Warmquest installed over 2,000 square feet of heated sidewalks for this resort, providing unhindered access for patrons to hit the slopes. The snow melting system uses low voltage Tuff Cable and is powered by 7 CBX6 control units. Each control unit includes a 6kVA transformer power the connected zone. These control units are all connected to a single selector box, allowing the entire system to be activated by a single sensor. The automatic snow sensor chosen was configured to activate the system whenever the temperature fell below 38°F and moisture was present.

Tuff Cable is known for its longevity and features an industry leading 25 year warranty. This installation is a great example of its resilience, performing year after year (for 16 years at the time of writing) clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk.
